So i've figured out what it is (THAT WAS QUICK)

The old pieces i am making come from one days documentation of pulling - this doesn't allow me to be very free with colour as i feel that i can only use a few colours per image. I am pairing days with colour.

The whole point of using spray colour was to allow me to be more free as a way of escaping my impulsiveness.

So i need to set new limits. Rather than one day to one image, i should try maybe 10? Or maybe not even have a limit. Just start a new piece when i feel like it, or when there is a point that i feel is important, whilst carrying on with others. And continue my documentation for both pulling AND scratching, and document these on the same record.
